Every year the fishermen of Destin head out to sea for the annual Destin Cobia Tournament. This tournament, in its 19th year, is one of the most popular tournaments among local anglers. The tournament starts when the first cobia is brought in to the HarborWalk Marina's weigh station.
Each year, Cobia pass by Destin on an inshore run during the annual migration from their wintering grounds in the Florida Keys to Texas. The cobia swim just off shore, so beachgoers can see the boats running back and forth, often with a spotter in the tower looking for the brown shapes of the migrating fish.
Make plans to check out Super Saturdays! Each Saturday, the heaviest fish will win cash prizes. This year's tournament ends April 30 at 8 pm with awards and celebrations on Monday, May 9 at 6 pm at Harry T's.
